The number 8 & Fengshui for Asians in Real Estate

So I had a friend's mom from Shanghai who made her final choice on her house in the bay area from the others she saw because it had an 8 in the address and thus, deemed lucky.

There's a house I'm considering because there are multiple 8's in the address (along with being a good house) thus amplifying the luck. Or at least I can't shake off that Chinese thinking. LOL.

Just like how the Chinese avoid the number 4... another house I was looking at had 4 in its address, on the corner of the block and my mom was like that number combo - that's bad luck - if you said it fast it means it's like cutting through (in your life??)

Another house I looked at was right in front of a church and my Chinese real estate agent informed me that it would mean it's bad luck for your love life and that you would stay single.

Are the Chinese just overthinking It? 🤣 I'm an ABC but shoot, so many things that influence the Chinese when picking a house. Is it just all some weird juju or have truth in its merits?

Yes, building numbers do affect housing price but only in areas with many ethnically Chinese according to a recent study.

Her team analyzed almost 117,000 house sales in Metro Vancouver between 2000 and 2005. They found that homes with addresses ending in "4" — which sounds like "death" in Chinese — were sold at a 2.2 per cent discount, while those with addresses ending in "8" — which sounds like "prosperity" — were sold at a 2.5 per cent premium.

The average house price during the study was $400,000, which translates into a $8,000 loss or $10,000 gain compared to other addresses, Fortin told The Huffington Post B.C.

Just a little something to consider for the subtle asian real estate investor
